Cable Causes The Nerves to Fray
I really hate that our cable is as bad as it is. I really think we should be able to get all the major networks, the weather channel, and ESPN. I think that part of the problem is that the cable comes from the road into a bare two way splitter on the side of the house. One side goes to a room downstairs. The other side runs across the front of the house (about 110') and into a three way splitter. One goes to mom's room, one to the living room, and one to the four way splitter in my room.
Today I ran a new[er] coax cable across the front of the house to cut out one of the splitters along the path to my 'tv' and the cable modem. I also put boxes on each side of the house to help protect the new splitters from the weather. I just replaced them last year and they were already consumed by rust. There is however no notable difference in tv reception. I have a feeling there is nothing we can do about it. I think it has something to do with the line that runs to the house from the road..or possibly from the front of the neighborhood to the box by the road in front of our house. Satellite would be nice..but we'd have to switch to DSL.

It's probably the line from the curb to the house. Otherwise, the problem would be shared by your neighbors. So, just simply dig up the existing line and replace it. Simple right? Do it at night, too, because it would be a shame if the neighbors phone line went out or their mailbox was knocked over. :)
