Demo 102
I spent most of the day Saturday in the bathroom. It was not a good day. For the bathroom. In fact so bad that it no longer has a toilet, sink, tub, or a large chunk of floor. My mother and I helped some friends demo this roughly 40 year old bathroom. It was quite fun getting to whack ceramic tile with a hammer and cut up cabinets with a sawzall. The less fun part was falling through the floor--although it gives me something to write about :).
Parts of the floor were a bit water damaged. It's a good thing the tub was there to catch me (not that it's too far a fall-just ask my mom-as there is dirt only a few feet below). The second time I realized the floor was going out on me so I was able to get on a floor joist before the floor caved in. It would have been better if there was no floor and only joists. At least then you would have had a better idea of where you could stand. Once we got the tub out we were able to put down some plywood to cover the holes.
Getting the tub out was probably the worst part of the demo--it weighed a ton! We tried cutting it in half, knowing full well we couldn't--it took 30 seconds to go a half inch. We managed, using brute force while watching where we stepped, to get it up on a dolly and out to the road. It was a very good thing that house is a single story and only a few feet above ground.
Time for bed so I can rest up and make up some trivia questions. Hopefully I'll have a decent connection in the morning.
