3. The largest dam in the world has to be the Panama Canal. It not only keeps the entire Pacific Ocean from flowing into the Atlantic, but it ALSO prevents the entire Atlantic Ocean from flowing into the Pacific!

2. Jane's Addiction. Bonus: Lollapalooza
3. Hoover (Boulder) Dam
4. 2004

I also did well at trivia night this week, too. :)

Just FYI... There's been a lot of dam conversation around the house this evening...

Yes there has been a lot of dam talk..because we still don't have the dam answer..

Though I like Ben's dam answer, the Panama Canal does not quite fit the listed dam criteria of being a dam or being in NA. Also, the dam volume technically refers to the dam material, not the water in the dam reservoir.

The Hoover Dam (not the one in Ohio, btw) used to be the tallest dam in the US (now it's #2) but not the largest by volume in NA.

That's because we're the only dam country that matters... but since you insist on deminishing the mystique and legend of Hoover Dam with your talk of that pile of dirt known as Syncrude Tailings Dam in Canada (volume) or the Oroville Dam in California (tallest) then we can only assume that your patriotism and devotion to the US of A is waning. So, in order to restore your faith in this great country of ours, we are left with no other choice than to invade Canada with shovels in hand and relentlessly set forth to erode their "prestigious" dam. Afterwards, we will march, I say... march on their capital, shovels in hand and heads held high! We will send them a clear message that they should not trifle with their powerful neighbors to the south. Onwards to Toronto!

My dam vote went to the Olivenhaim dam which I learned was the largest volume RCC gravity dam in NA. Michael said that I cheated (for using google) and that he was not referring to RCC gravity dams. So I continue to be dam confused. I think the dam answer lies in Arizona however, the New Cornelia Tailings dam. Now, has anyone out there ever heard of this dam? NO.....

Well, I did cheat the second time and you can find my reference here:
