Shrimp 101

After work today I put my kayak in by the house I am currently working on. The house is located on the Intercoastal Waterway between Mt Pleasant and Sullivan's Island. The tide was very low this afternoon. I started off in about 1-2 feet of water. There were several times throughout the paddle that the bottom of the boat was hitting and I had to put up the rudder just to get through. Why Shrimp 101 you ask? Well, shrimp season is just over the horizon and I had to start training shrimp how to jump into my boat. There were shrimp all over the place. Thousands of little shrimp jumping out of the water. They were attacking me. Kamikazes! Several landed in the boat and many were jumping into me. I even saw a couple jumping over the bow of the boat. It was like the Shrimp Olympics.

Another one down

Charley stopped by for a visit today. Luckily he was not nearly as bad for the South Carolina coast as Hugo. Everyone seems to be ok in the Charleston area that I know of thus far. Charley hit a bit above us so we didn't get much more than some wind and rain. Here we lost power for a split second. Many others in Mount Pleasant lost it for several hours. Cable and internet went out about 7am, but we had them back by 11. Many of our trees were shaken clean..getting rid of many of the dead branches (mostly small stuff)..thanks Charley! With the internet being out, I missed getting a screenshot to put on the website. If I find one, I'll update this entry..

Yowza!

I guess it's time for an update. I've been keeping fairly busy between work, computer games, the aquarium, and my new hobby of fishing. Fishing means boating. It's sure nice to know people with boats, especially around here. I lack some serious skill in the fishing arena however. I've caught more fish with my new cast net than I have with a fishing pole. A lot more. Some of the ones in the cast net were even bigger than the ONE fish that I have caught with a pole. (I have caught a few stingrays though..and even snagged a bird..don't ask..) Shrimp will be caught when the season starts. I've caught 2 shrimp already. I'm getting pretty good with a cast net.

What else is going on..

My older computer died. It's dead. Won't do a darn thing. I'm not sure what's wrong with it and haven't tried pulling components out yet. Everything seems to get power, but nothing happens when I turn it on. I have my eye on someone else's old computer though..which is better than my dead one. He just has to get all his stuff off of it..and want to give it to me..

The counter on my camera rolled over. I have taken over 10,000 pictures with my camera. Which means that I have roughly spent about 12 cents a picture. Another 10k and I think I'll be able to start looking at new cameras. Band season just kicked off, so it should be too hard. They had their exhibition the other week. I'll get pictures up from that sometime..I just need to remove a bunch of other pictures first. I'm out of disk space on my server unless I upgrade my account.

I'm sure there's more..but I have to go..

Till next year :) Adios
