How Much Am I Going To Have To Pay?

Well, the PS3 was revealed today. I haven't finished sifting through all the articles about it yet so I can't make a very well formed decision on it. It will probably take seeing in action before I truly decide. I'll have to get my hdtv before I get my PS3 though. I may have to get two tv's to support the 32x9 dual hd outputs. Wouldn't that be sweet.

I'm not sure how I feel about the controllers. They look like a boomerang. I'm perfectly happy with the original style, but I'll hold my final judgment until I use one. The use of bluetooth for the controllers is my biggest concern right now. I like the idea, but bluetooth means batteries, which we know are sub-par for this day and age..when are the nuclear batteries that last 50 years coming out? The controllers are supposed to last 24 hours before needing to be charged. I assume they will charge via one of the 6 usb ports on the comput..console which would mean you could probably leave it plugged in and operate that way if need be. Wireless controllers will be nice as long as they don't get stuck down in the abyss of the couch or somewhere like the middle shelf in the snack cupboard.

I'm almost mad that they changed the power plug. The original PSX and PS2's used the same cord. (They went and changed it in their rereleases.) I have several products that use the same plug so it was nice to have something universal. Universal..a concept Sony doesn't truly understand (why use the MS Duo, which is a proprietary format of a proprietary format). The reason I said "almost" is that they appear to be using a standard computer plug..seeming how that's pretty much what the PS3 is I guess it makes sense. The nice thing is that I have more of those cords than outlets in my house so I won't have to worry about not being able to find one.

Time to start saving up..

Now I need some answers.. :)

I need to get a laptop soon. I'm trying to decide between a widescreen laptop or a tablet PC. In the world of laptops, is dell really worth spending more on? I can get a computer whose specs are much better and save [my company] several hundred dollars if I went with a gateway/toshiba/hp/... Any suggestions?

In my experience with laptops, Dell has been the easiest to work with by far. Every vendor will have issues, it's just the luck of the draw. The better issue to focus on is what kind of support will be available when your laptop takes a dive. For work, I have nearly every Dell workstation OS cd since Win 95 (sans ME) in a cd case as well as some retail discs including server versions. I can have a Dell reloaded including apps and patched within the day. I've had an HP laptop sitting at the end of my desk for 2-3 months now because I don't have install cd's for it. Take a look around the hospitals and see what kit they're running. Find out what kind of machines and OS's are in use at the doctors' offices. If you're going to start relying on this machine, make sure you have the support to back it up. Plus, make sure that you can live with it's quirks. I've heard Toshiba has a good track record for durability, but the one thing that'd turned me off to them for a long time was their preference of pointing devices.

As for the power connector on the PS3, it's about time they got with the program. I'm surprised they didn't figure it out sooner that they could save truckloads of cash by using ordinary cords. Anyway, I don't even have GT4, yet and I already want GT5.

Sheena has an HP\Compaq laptop, which she really likes. Everyone else in my family has a Dell, and although the Compaq is sexier, I think they are pretty similar in quality. I'm buying a PC for my dad in the next month, and I'm only considering Dell for them because of the great support.

Dude, yer getting.. ok nevermind.

The PS3 does have support for up to 7 controllers, so just buy a new one until you don't have any more cushions to lose them in. :) The funniest thing I've heard about the new controller design is that it's shaped that way so that when you get mad and throw it across the room, it will come back to you. Previously you had the cord to pull on to drag it back, so this is their solution to that problem.
