I'm a Winner, Yay!

I don't think anyone that reads my blog keeps up with the View Askew Universe, beyond watching Kevin Smith's movies. If you did however, you would have seem my name at the top of NewsAskew.com [link] last night. I was one of the ten lucky people chosen to receive a free copy of the Mallrats 10th Anniversary edition which hit stores today. It makes me very happy that I don't have to buy it since I already own the original on DVD. I can't stand when studios release better versions after a film has been on DVD already. I don't mind as much with the View Askew re-releases because I know that they have gone above and beyond to come up with new content. They weren't intentionally holding back on the original release. I have yet to purchase 'Jersey Girl' and 'Sin City' for example, knowing that a special edition/directors cut is being produced (although Jersey Girl might not make it to fruition). Heres a direct link to the article on NewsAskew.

Speaking of the Askewniverse, Jason Lee (Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma) stars in 'My Name is Earl' on NBC at 8 tonight. Earl's brother is played by the guy in 'Mallrats' that couldn't see the sailboat. Watch it. It's funny. Not that I've..huh..seen it or anything. It is followed by 'The Office' with Steve Carell. I don't care much for him, but the show is great. Hopefully they'll have more than six episodes this season. Both shows conflict with 'Bones' on FOX. The pilot for 'Bones' didn't impress me much. I'll probably still watch it..mostly because I have too much free-time.

Since this turned into a TV entry, if you happened to see 'Surface' last night you may have noticed some bad stuff happening on Sullivan's Island in SC. Sullivan's Island is about five minutes from my house, but the filming is taking place about 3000 miles away from what I understand. The brothers who wrote/directed the show are using the town simply because their parents leave in the Charleston area. It's another show that has something to do with SC that will likely fail. It's more Sci-Fi channel than NBC. I don't know why all the networks keep trying these sci-fi shows. They rarely make it no matter how good they are.

I watch too much series television. In college I only kept up with the shows Maryment watched while I lived with Yoda..and I hardly kept up with those. Now I seem to watch at least half of it.

Wow, having your name on NewsAskew.com itself is almost as cool as winning the DVD.

I too find myself following a lot more TV series lately than I did in the past. I sometimes wonder if it's just that the programming is getting better (or my tastes have changed to better match what they produce) or if it's simply the fact that I time shift 99% of my TV so I have more time to watch what I want without giving up the rest of my life. Probably it's the latter.

The Tivo has DEFINITELY increased the amount of TV we watch, but at the same time, we're not nearly the slaves to TV that we used to be. No more "Well, I would be happy to join that very important committee, but it meets on Thursday night, and CSI is on, so sorry."
